As the former owner and Headmaster of a high-performing private institution, Akani provides consultation for a wide variety of education institutions on staff development, creative disciplinary strategies, and curriculum matters. His team is a highly skilled network of professionals; including National Board Certified teachers, performance artists, and health-care professionals.
Akani is currently in the development of a Rite-of-Passage program; an innovative approach to addressing the growing need for receiving young people recently released from incarceration, or at high risk for entering the system. The program is intended to offer new hope and possibilities; inspiring and energizing them for the journey toward renewal.
He is among the first local trainers in the so-called Council process; a powerful communication tool that emphasizes deep listening, speaking from the heart, and witnessing. It is increasingly used in a variety of settings; in schools, families, and business. He has trained educators, and students, as well as business professionals and nonprofits. His local experience ranges from early development of programs at the Center for the Healing Arts, many public and private schools, to the Ojai Foundation with colleagues who were early trainers in the work. He continues the work with individuals, couples, and families statewide.
